The "blended learning" option of the WBA Master Brewer program begins with students who have completed and passed or are currently enrolled in the online WBA Advanced Brewing Theory program, which covers the core theory basis of all advanced programs (modules 1-3).
To complete the "in person" component of the blended learning option, students travel to Munich, Germany, where they will begin with the WBA Applied Brewing Techniques module (module 4) and put into practice their previously learned theoretical knowledge at the facilities of Doemens Academy. Students will participate in advanced level brewing theory training and education while at Doemens, including presentations regarding brewing techniques used in creating authentic German beer styles.
The two-week WBA European Brewing Study Tour module (module 5) follows, taking students to breweries and brewing-industry suppliers in various countries, seeing how the information they have gained is utilized in real-world brewing environments. This knowledge is then put to the test in the WBA Business of Brewing and Technical Case Studies module (module 6), where students are divided into work groups to resolve a given problem and create a presentation to be presented at the culmination of the week-long module.
Students then are immersed in the challenging 8-week WBA Applied Advanced Brewing module (module 7) where they experience further hands-on activities at breweries in the Munich area, along with additional advanced theory and techniques and lab experience. The culmination of the program is a graduation at one of Munich's classic bierhalls.
All studies are conducted in English. Airfare to and from Munich, along with room and board while in Munich is the responsibility of the student in this blended learning option.
