Centrifuges are becoming more affordable, even to the smaller craft brewers. This lecture reviews the theory behind the design of the centrifuges, the different types, and how they should be operated and maintained. Darren is a native of Altoona, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Penn State University, with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Darren spent 27 plus years at ABInBev, the latter 15 of those years managing the process in-line instrumentation technology development and standards at HQ in St. Louis, MO. While in the brewing industry, Darren has directly worked with many manufacturers in refining and integrating their process equipment and instruments into the majority of brewery processes. Darren designed, fabricated, and commissioned the entire electrical and instrumentation system for the 45 gallon Nano-Brewing system of the University of California at Davis research pilot brewery. In 2013, Darren and his wife LeeAnn started their own engineering and consulting company “Goodlin Process Solutions LLC”. Darren’s main focus is to help all size breweries to troubleshoot and incorporate methods and technologies to improve their process efficiencies, product quality and consistency. Darren is an active member of The Master Brewers of the Americas (MBAA) since 1994, working as a member of the National Technical Committee and as a Course Director and instructor at MBAA hosted Brewing and Engineering Courses. He is a senior member of the International Society of Automation (ISA).
